JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – As Missouri back-to-school shoppers crowd into the stores on the state sales tax holiday, the state’s budget director is hoping some in the crowds will look at big ticket items as well.
Budget Director Linda Luebbering’s office released figures Thursday that show net state revenue collections last month declined 4.2 percent compared July 2009. A continued decline in state sales taxes was the key factor in the decline. Sales tax collections were down 9.7 percent in the period.
