Event Honors Workers Who Lost their Lives in the Workplace in 2009
In 2009, more than 109,119 Missouri workers were injured and 116 lost their lives in the workplace. Every year on April 28, thousands of people in hundreds of communities across the nation recognize workers who have been killed or injured on the job. This nationwide observance is called “Workers Memorial Day.”
To remember these workers and promote safe workplaces, the Missouri Labor Department is hosting a Workers Memorial Day ceremony this afternoon at the Missouri State Capitol. Family members of the deceased workers will receive special recognition. The event is free and open to the general public.
