Despite one problem after another at Omaha’s one and only nuclear power plant, two OPPD board members survived Tuesday’s primary. But one of the two came out of the race with a relatively narrow win. While Mike Cavanaugh was finishing first with 29 percent of the vote, Sandy Dodge garnered 17 percent—just four points ahead of both Tom Barrett and former Douglas County Commissioner George Mills

Continue reading …Nebraska Watchdog has learned that you can now add WUI, working under the influence, to the lengthy list of problems surrounding OPPD’s Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant. According to a report from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission obtained by Nebraska Watchdog “a non-licensed supervisory employee was determined to be under the influence of illegal drugs during a random test.” O PPD spokesman Jeff Hanson tells Nebraska Watchdog the worker is an OPPD employee. The NRC report, which indicates that the incident occurred last Friday afternoon, says the worker’s “access to the plant has been terminated.” The report does not say which illegal drugs were involved
