Add higher taxes and term limits to Bob Kerrey’s Washington to-do list. As he heads across the state on day one of his Senate battle with Republican Deb Fischer , Kerrey tells Nebraska Watchdog (see exclusive video below) that anyone who won’t consider higher taxes—Kerrey insisting the hikes come only after major spending cuts—is part of the problem not the solution.
A group called Ending Spending – which is headed up by Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts – has unleashed an ad urging Nebraskans to vote for “anybody but Jon” on Tuesday. Continue reading …According to House Appropriations and Budget Chairman Earl Sears (R-Bartlesville), there are only two bond proposals that he predicts have enough support to be passed this year: one for the State Capitol complex and the other for a new office for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The measure, HB1054/SB1738 , would require owners of corner stores that offer roll-your-own cigarette services to pay a $500-per-machine licensing fee, pay the same tax per pack as pre-rolled cigarettes, and pay into a massive settlement between cigarette makers and the states.
