According to House Appropriations and Budget Chairman Earl Sears (R-Bartlesville), there are only two bond proposals that he predicts have enough support to be passed this year: one for the State Capitol complex and the other for a new office for the Department of Veterans Affairs. (see video below) Sears expects three other bond proposals to come from the Senate, one for the Native American Cultural Center in Oklahoma City, one for the Popular Music Museum in Tulsa and the other for the Medical Examiner’s Office in Edmond, but he doesn’t think there’s majority support on the House side for those

Continue reading …Oklahoma City state representative Charles Key says many members feel their participation in committee meetings is “meaningless” because only a few people are really in charge of what bills get heard. Key contacted Oklahoma Watchdog after a story posted Monday showing he and two other representatives have missed 10 committee meetings , more than any other member (see video below). Key says “there’s a problem a lot of members have with the way the Legislature functions and the way the leadership has decided to work in the system.” He says they control it to the extent that “they dictate what bills will and will not be heard.” According to Key, this leads to a feeling that members’ votes are meaningless in committee. But Key also chairs the House Insurance Committee.
